Scope and Contents

The correspondence, which includes extensive memoranda and minutes, deals in considerable detail with the policies of the East India Company's Madras government towards the Raja of Tanjore, the question of the Tanjore and Arcot debts, and dynastic disputes in the royal house.

An original letter, with translation, of the Raja of Tanjore to Dundas (folios 123-137), is included in the Blackburne correspondence.

Dates: 1786-1801.

Manuscript of, and additional material relating to, ‘Papers Illustrating the History of the Scots Brigade in the Service of the United Netherlands 1572-1782’, edited by James Ferguson [of Kinmundy, Sheriff of Forfarshire], Scottish History Society, 1st Series, Volumes 32 (1899), 35 (1899) and 38 (1901).

Scope and Contents It was originally Ferguson`s intention to print Dutch text and English translation of all Dutch documents quoted, but this scheme had to be abandoned for reasons of space, and only the English translations were ultimately printed (Volume I, page xxxiii). After embarking on a career in journalism in the 1950s Magnusson moved into television in the-mid 1960s where he presented such programmes as "Chronicle" which was dedicated to achaeological discoveries.
